What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Share
Still going to share in ways we always did but now adding the ability to go beyond the local community and go global.
Sharing with purpose - authentic audience - someone who chooses to listen to them.
Can see Blog posts and who is reading them through Hapara.
Sharing doesn't always need to be the end product (blog post). Authentic audience may need to be triggered!
Share to learn - not always share to finish learning

Computational thinking - thinking like a computer
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
code.org - get the kids signed up for this. Can them move to using Scratch
We had a go at writing instructions for another group to follow - emphasising the need to be very specific.
Google Sketchup - can design 3d drawings
Homework - check computational thinking - progress outcomes, exemplars, and snapshots Have a go and see what I could use in the class.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Makey Makey
Science for circuits
Interactive exhibits to display work
Scratch - had a go at animation using coding with mixed results - still can't work out how to get rid of the green line!

Hi Lisa
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying following your blog from a distance and gaining an insight into what is working for you and providing ideas and support for your teaching. Computational Thinking is a biggie for our young people and it is exciting to see what our expert teachers come up with to implement it in their classrooms.
I was interested in the elements of the 'Share' conversation that resonated with you, and of course you are showing the way simply by sharing on this blog.
Have a great week.
Dorothy
Way to go Lisa on getting your hour of code cert. Thank you for your help on code.org so that I could get my cert. too:). I like how had a go at scratch and added different features e.g sound effect, a background and making the bat slide on a line.
